Girls night out...back in NY

One of the highlights of our trip to NY, at least for me, was a VERY special girls night out. It started with a crazy idea. Shelly and I had been talking about how we both love Les Miserables. Then one morning she was looking at the paper and I happened to look over her shoulder. We both saw it. Les Mis was playing on Broadway! Could we pull it off?
Oh, there were doubts.(Should we really spend the money and make the 3+ hour drive?) There were complications. (We'll need to get a hotel. No one has anything to wear! All the kids will have to stay with Joe and Steve.) Buying the tickets was an adventure in itself, but we did it! Then we had to make a shopping trip for fancy clothes, which none of us had bothered to bring along.
Here are the results of Audrey's shopping spree!

And here are all the girls (except me) in our room just before we left for the show. We stayed just outside the city...supposed to be 20 minutes from Broadway. We gave ourselves an hour and a half. We thought maybe we'd even have time to grab a quick bite to eat before the show. But what we hadn't counted on was...

The Lincoln Tunnel. This is it on the way back, by the way. We didn't go anywhere near this fast on the way there.

We ended up in the city, blocks away from our theater, stuck in traffic, 15 minutes before showtime, with no idea where we were going to park. Brave Shelly, our wonderful driver said "You guys get out and go on foot. I'll find parking and meet you there" It was close, but all of us, including Shelly, were in our seats when the curtain went up.

After the show, Shelly drove us around the city for a little site seeing. We ended up in Times Square. Some might say it was purely an accident, but I say it was Shelly's brilliant driving and keen sense of direction.

Finally, we decided to head back out of the city. We'd find somewhere to eat, right?

So we ended our fabulous night, eating french fries and fried chicken in a rest stop Roy Rodgers. It might not have been what we had in mind, but it added to the memory of one great girls night out.
