Wake up, after being kicked all night by Jackson. For those who don't know, it's not possible to get a good night's sleep in the same bed as someone under 5. Everyone else is still asleep, so I decide to go out for a walk. Have great intentions of buying some fruit, milk, yogurt, etc. for a healthy breakfast, but find myself in a donut shop. Decide dieting can wait until after vacation.
We only have 1/2 day free before we need to get kids down for naps and prepare for wedding, so we opt to check out the Estes Park Aerial Tramway. Ride up to the top, hike around, feed peanuts to squirrels and chipmunks.
Matthew says, "Yoo hoo, chipmonkeys, come out, come out, where ever you are!"
We are having a great time feeding the wildlife and scrambling around on the rocks, when kids start melting down. Matthew is in a real mood and refuses to hike; he wants to go back down. We finally talk him into hiking and he says he wants to hike down the mountain. Well, all the trails pretty much go down. Then we realize he thinks he hiking all the way to the bottom and back to the cabin.
Jackson has also has a meltdown because Daddy has disappeared. Grampaw appeases him with ice cream and peanuts.
Ride tram down and go to city park for lunch. While there, Matthew has to go to the bathroom. We are just across the street from our cabin, so I take him back. He tells me:
"Actually, Grampaw and I go peepee outside sometimes." Not today son, not today.
Try to get kids down for naps. For Matthew, this mostly involves watching his portable DVD player, but ultimately they both sleep a little.
We get ready for the wedding. Drop kids off at babysitter. Amazingly, kids are fine. They start playing with toys and hardly have time to say goodbye to mom and dad. No crying...not even Daddy's boy, Jackson.
Wedding is beautiful. Very personal and memorable. Lots of love, laughter and sand (my personal favorite). We're outside and it starts raining slightly. Everyone is thinking, "At what point do we get to go inside?" Ceremony finishes before the rain gets too bad, but then we are told we have to stand outside on the steps for a group picture. We get a little wet while we wait for the Bride and Grooom to join us. That's ok - it's their day.
Reception was lovely as well, and thankfully, inside. Food was great, and the company even better. I realize something I should have known by now: Geophysicists should not be allowed to dance.
I get in one dance with my hubby, before we notice that it's approaching kids' bedtime. My parents bail as well when they realize the musical line up isn't going to include many 2 steps.
Pick up kids, who are STILL content and not crying, although they are happy to see Moma and Daddy. I consider going back to join the party after the kids are in bed, but we're all wiped out and collapse into bed.
